What is the difference between an industrial physical plant and a plant?

A plant in SAP does not necessarily equate to physical production plant. A production facility is typically called a plant in business parlance. However, a plant, which is denoted by a four-character alphanumeric code in SAP, can represent a companys headquarter, a manufacturing facility, a central sales office, a central warehouse, or even a maintenance location.
